This year I decided NOT to have my daughter's birthday party at home and having to
deal with the after party mess. I saw the MHDC website offering Birthday
Bashes and thought it could work. I was right! My daughter had the best time
celebrating with her friends. The girls danced, played several games and the
staff was super professional, efficient and sweet! I loved not having to
move a finger while enjoying and having quality time with the moms! If you
are looking for a great place to celebrate your child's birthday party,
think MHDC! They take care of ALL the details, your kids have fun and
parents feel pampered by the staff!

My first question would be do you have a way to speak to the owner of the studio about your concerns? If that is not an option I would have to decide if my daughter is truly happy there-I guess I doubt it given what you have described. Though it is a hard thing to make a decision about, I have seen dancers decide to leave studios and be really tentative about the move, but in the end they end up being happy and become stronger dancers as the pressure is gone. Again, the hardest part is making the decision to make the break.

Thank you for your thoughts and question.

You say a lot but what about when the problem is with an Artistic Director that was brought in from the outside. He is on contract and can terminate that contract and leave at any time. But he is a nightmare. Your child was there first and will be there when he leaves but in the mean time your dancer is being punished for you questioning him. He puts her in a lower level than she should be in. Sends a list to teachers with her name on it saying she cannot get any lead parts or solos. He undermines her confidence at each turn. But this is your child's only choice in a studio and her home. What do you do? She is a great dancer has a ton of natural talent and is a hard worker. She volunteers in lower levels to help with the creative and ballet 1. She knows every child and the parents all adore her.

Thank you so much for your comment! It helps to know that through our efforts we not only make the studio a happier place, but also the dancers and their families!

I had a blast throwing Chloe's birthday party! She picked a great theme... Camp Rock! They even had the chance to create their own Camp Rock Dance Show. As you can tell from the wild faces they of course ROCKED IT!

I found your website while looking for Zumba classes, I've heard of your studio before as I grew up and danced in the area. I would just like to say that I am loving all the advice in your blog. There was a lot of this type and other negative things you have spoken about at the studio I grew up at and it was part of the reason we left. It is great to hear a dance teacher/studio owner to talk about these things and deal with them in a proper manner instead of ignoring them or adding fuel to the fire. There needs to be more teachers/owners out there like you.
